Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. Because Truthout is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, your donation is tax deductible. For tax purposes, you will need our Employer Identification Number: 20-0031641.

Please consult with your accountant or tax preparer regarding charitable tax deductions.

I don't like your emails asking for money. Is there a way to receive fewer of them?

Yes. By becoming a Truthout member, you will be moved to a special email list which receives a very limited number of fundraising messages.

No one is picking up my call. Why?

Our staff is available to answer your calls at call (213) 489-1971, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Pacific time (11 a.m.-8 p.m. Eastern) Monday-Friday, excluding holidays. If you call and get our voicemail, please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.

I don't like entering my credit card information over the Internet. Is it safe?

We use 256-bit domain verified secure socket layer encryption. That's a fancy way of saying that your information is protected by same Internet technology used by banks and other online merchants.

If you don't feel comfortable using your credit card, we also have options to donate over the phone, by paper check, by electronic check or via PayPal. Click here to visit the donation options page.

How will my donation be used?

Truthout is funded primarily by small contributions from our readers. We use this money to pay our 14-person staff and contributing writers, and to cover administrative costs. Because we are a nonprofit, there are no shareholders; all funds go toward pursuing our mission. For a full accounting of our spending, please see the last page of our annual report.

What else can I donate to Truthout?

We will put your cars, property, stocks or bonds to good use. Please write to development@truthout.org for more information.

What is a legacy donation?

A legacy donation is a way to support Truthout even after the end of your life. By adding our organization as a beneficiary in your will, you will help preserve our work for generations to come. Please write to development@truthout.org or call (213) 489-1971 for details. If you plan to remember Truthout in your will you should seek the advice of a lawyer or financial adviser.

I want to put up money for a challange grant. Who do I contact?

Please write to development@truthout.org if you’d like to make a large donation and challenge our readers to match it.

I can’t afford to make a monetary donation right now. How else can I help Truthout?

You can help by recommending Truthout to your friends, forwarding them our stories and joining our Facebook group. Invite your friends to sign up for our daily newsletter here.
